Beware of the music

The next time you enter a restaurant take a listen to your surroundings. In particular to see if they are playing music and the type of music that is being played if any. Some persons may be quite aware, however some of the subliminal influences are that playing music as diners have a meal increases their time dining and also to spend more.

If there is classical or easy jazz music playing, there is a tendency for persons to linger a bit longer. The music tends to add to the relaxation and persons lose track of time. Meanwhile listening to slower music while you dine will subconsciously encourage you to eat slower, which improves digestion and potentially leads you to consume fewer calories.
Think about it, next time that you eat in a restaurant and there is no music, try to rate your dining experience. Some persons state that the place is actually more disturbing and the sound of cutlery on china is distracting, making for a less appealing meal.
Take it a notch higher, and rather than have piped music during the meal, make use of live musicians. Its an organic and natural feel that live music brings to the atmosphere within the dining experience. Some persons get creative and use this time to also request some of their favorite tunes - which impresses the guest who they may be having the meal with at the time.

Those awkward moments when the conversation subsides and the uncanny silence happens, the music easily fills the spaces, on cue and smooth finesse. Additionally it makes all those other conversations which are happening around you as you dine, insignificant. That means that your conversation is also private. Make a note, when ever the music stops, you'll feel the need to ask for the check, or that you've lingered just long enough.
